Mark Cavendish won the final sprint on the Champs-Elysees for the second consecutive time, as he scored his fifth stage of this year's tour.
Alberto Contador wrapped up his tour win, with Alessandro Petacchi securing the green points jersey.
It was the usual end of term atmosphere and antics at the start of the day's stage, as team RadioShack pulled on special black jerseys bearing the number 28, representing the 28 million worldwide cancer sufferers.
The organisers hadn't authorised the jersey change, meaning that the peloton grounded to a halt for 15 minutes, as the team changed their jerseys, and transferred their race numbers.
Not long after Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck posed for the cameras at the front of the bunch, with Koos Moerenhout also enjoying leading the race for a period, in the 36-year-old's final stage ever of the Tour de France.
With around 50km to go, the riders arrived on the Champs-Elysees, with Astana taking the honour of leading the riders through the start line ahead of the eight laps that the riders take around the Paris circuit.
As usual there were the attempted breakaways, but the raging peloton were able to reel them in with 6km to go as the mad dash to the line began. Thor Hushovd began the sprint early as he needed to finish higher than 6th to win the points jersey, but it was too early as it turned out as he faded away.
Mark Cavendish was launched to the line and easily took the stage, with Alessandro Petacchi finishing 2nd.
