Capcom and Namco Bandai Games have announced two crossover fighting games: Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter.
Street Fighter X Tekken, in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, uses the engine behind Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV.
Tekken characters such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams will be "re-imagined" using Street Fighter's 2.5D art style.
That means while the character models will be realised in 3D, they will fight on a 2D plane.
The game will include modes such as Versus, Training and Tag Team combat, where players select two fighters to deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos.
Commenting on the origins of the project, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono said: "This is history we're making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all."
Meanwhile, Namco Bandai Games is working on Tekken X Street Fighter, in development at Namco by Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada.
According to a report by Kotaku, Tekken X Street Fighter will play in the style of Tekken, with contestants fighting in a 3D arena.
