48 Hours’ Revisits The Tragedy Of Damien Echols Of The West Memphis Three


Damien Echols who is presently on the death row, revealed in an interview that he has been in the death row for 16 years for a crime that he has not committed. Erin Moriarty was the correspondent for ‘48 Hours’ and she also interviewed the wife of Damien Echols and actor Johny Depp. Johny Depp said that he is 1000% sure about the fact that the West Memphis Three were innocent.
In 1993, three teenagers were accused for the brutal murder of three 8 year old boys. The bodies of the children were discovered a day after they went missing, in a river, with indication  extreme brutality. Some of the fingers pointed towards a satanic ritual and Damien Echols came under the scrutiny of the locals for his Gothic style statement. He, along with Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were convicted for the crime in spite of no substantial evidence pointing towards their involvement in the crime. The case got immense media highlight but the trio continued to serve their sentences. Damien Echols was given the death sentence and he has since been on the row. Lorri Davis who studied the case, wrote to Damien Echols and began to fight for justice for the trio. She also married Damien Echols later.
In the interview, Lorri Davis revealed that she thought it was morally right to try and help the West Memphis Three. She said that she married Damien Echols because he was an amazing person. Damien Echols described his wife as a living miracle.
